On June 21, 1998, Monique and I got married. We had known each other for close to four years. Our wedding was held in the Rose Garden at Woodland Park, in Seattle, WA and was attended by many of our friends and family. On my side, my grandmother attended, accompanied by my parents, who I hadn't seen in over 13 years (sorry about the picture mom... if you hadn't been wearing that hat maybe we coulda seen your face a little better. Oh well...).
On Monique's side, her parents, Nancy and Roy were there, as well as her grandparents.
Our wedding was officiated by my very good friend Mike, who is someone I originally met at work a couple years ago.
He is a professional computer geek, specializing in Unix and Macintosh stuff,
and he is a Universal Life minister in his spare time. Ours was the first wedding he has ever been called upon to solemnize. Thanks Mike!
Our wedding ceremony was very simple.
Basically, Mike introduced himself and told the assembled multitude what they already knew, which was that they had assembled to observe our wedding, and then he let Monique and I take over. I read a story called "The Wayward Princess" from a book called Tales of The Dervishes by Idries Shah, which is an ancient Sufi teaching story about a king who had his own ideas about personal destiny and free will, and his daughter, one of three princesses, who disagreed with him. After reading the story, Monique and I exchanged our vows, exchanged rings and, voilá... we were married!
Our wedding party consisted of my friend Mal, someone with whom I play music fairly frequently, my son, Ezra and Monique's friends Holly and Laura, who are people Monique knows from school. Monique made all of our fancy clothing for the wedding, including her dress... pretty impressive, huh? 8)
After our wedding, Monique and I spent a week travelling up and down the Pacific Coast, fromhe Pacific Coast, from LaPush, in the northwest corner of Washington, to Fort Stevens, in the northwest corner of Oregon. We had a great time on our honeymoon and took a lot of pictures which haven't been scanned yet. I'm thinking of making Monique write about our honeymoon since she hasn't really written anything in this web site... we'll see what happens.
