Glasgow Cathedral and environs My time siteseeing in Glasgow was limited, so I took a bus tour of the city, and then went back on foot to those site that particularly interested me. I found myself looking at the architecture, mostly, and at the beautiful faces carved in stone that seemed to be everywhere, like this one from Glasgow Cathedral.
During this visit I learned about St. Mungo (6th century), patron saint of Glasgow, and of the five miracles associated with him. The Glaswegian coat of arms represents these miracles with imagery of a fish, a ring, a bird, a tree, and a bell. Discovering what those miracles were, however, was another story entirely (and too long a story to describe here). I also visited the nearby St. Mungo Museum of Religious Life and Art which, if small, was broad in its coverage. It had some beautiful exhibits and artifacts, and of my limited exposure to the city, may have been my favorite spot.
