President's Report by Bev Hartell
Summer is here! And Friends' projects are coming up. If you have not joined in on the Trail Project before, you are missing an opportunity to help and have a great time, too. Sign up now! Also, check out the Wildflower Program and the Archeology Hike with the Park Historian. The annual meeting, October 4, will be another opportunity to "learn more about it", as morning seminars give us a chance to explore other aspects of Crater Lake National Park. Looking to the future, at a recent board meeting, a discussion was held on ideas to celebrate Crater Lake National Park's 100th anniversary in 2002! The Park Service will be planning some special happenings and the Friends are eager to help. Please take note of Laurie Pohll's news from the Crater Lake Natural History Association. Have a great summer, and we hope to see you in the Park!

Trail Project Plans
July 25, 26, 27, 1997
Join your Friends for this summer's trail project weekend.. Friday evening, July 25, camp is set up at Lost Creek Campground and sign up for trail work Saturday, July 26 and Sunday, July 27. Various skill and endurance level projects have been planned. Annie Creek Canyon Trail will most likely be the site for Saturday's projects and could include bridge plank replacement, installation of water bars, trail inventory with a mileage wheel or basic trail enhancement. The Sunday morning project will be trail enhancement of the Discovery Point Trail (along the Rim). Registration includes camping and evening meals Friday and Saturday. You provide your own breakfast and trail lunches. There is no fee this year, but donations are welcome. Contact Greg Redell or Greg Hartell, for more information and to register. Camp cooks are Chuck and Sally Wells and we are hoping to have entertainment around the campfire.

In conjunction with the trail project (or you can come just for it) Amy Mark will lead a wildflower walk at Castle Crest Wildflower Garden at 4:00 PM, Friday, July 25 and again at 2:00 PM. Sunday, July 27. Please register for the walk by contacting Amy. Each walk limited to 15 people.

Participants will meet in the back parking lot of the Administration Bldg. at park headquarters at 10:00 a.m. Bring a lunch and water. Please pre-register.

Crater Lake Natural History Association by Laurie Pohll
For those of you who don't know me, I am Laurie Pohll, the current Business Manager for Crater Lake Natural History Association. By accepting this position, I have come to learn more about other Natural History Associations, along with the Crater Lake Natural History Association.
As part of my role with the Association, I plan to diversify the scope of Crater Lake Natural History Association. That might include marketing our material to a larger consumer base audience outside Crater Lake National Park. We are currently initiating a membership drive. A one year membership is $10 for an individual and $15 for a family. A membership entitles you to a 15% discount at any of our sales outlets located in the Steel Information Center and the Rim Visitor Center.
I am very proud of Crater Lake National Park, as I'm sure you are. We are all here to cooperate with each other and the park service. I can be reached at (541)594-2211 ext.498 if you have any questions.
I want to say thank you for including Crater Lake Natural History Association as part of the Friends Group.
