ADOPT A TRAIL - ADOPT A BOUNDARY
Crater Lake is seeking Friends to Adopt a Trail or a Boundary to
help the back country rangers get a increased presence and help monitor
the parkšs back country. Crater Lakešs trails and boundaries vary from
close to roads too very remote. The trails will usually have a good path
to show their location. The boundaries are marked with green and white
metal signs.
We plan to start the training and orientation with the park staff at
the Community Building (in the Steel Circle housing area at park
headquarters) at 9:00 AM on Saturday, July 20. We should go to about
4:00 that day.
Sunday should go from about 9:00 to 4:00 as well.
Bring mosquito repellent, sun screen, lunches, hat, lots of
water...it's hot even up here. Also rain gear, the weatherman is talking
about a chance of thunderstorms in our future.
Fiends can partner with other Friends, neighbors, and family when
they Adopt a Trail or Boundary. The adoption will include light trail
maintenance like what the Friends Project Trail work includes, but we
will notify the trail crew of big troubles found on the adopted trail or
boundary. Folks who adopt a segment of boundary will have tasks such as
replacing missing signs, watch for trespass, and report activities on
the boundary.
Training and orientation will be July 20, and the Adoption work can
start July 21. The Friends who wish can join us camping Friday night
July 19 and Saturday night July 20. You can look for Greg Reddell at
Lost Creek Campground for tent camping and George and Judy Buckingham at
Mazama Campground for the RV campers. Saturday evening will be dinner at
one of the Campgrounds. Bring your own breakfast and noon lunches.

DOCENTS FOR THE ARTIST IN THE PARK EXHIBIT
The Artist in the Park Exhibit has opened at the Community House on
the Rim at Crater Lake National Park. The Friends were asked to find
Volunteers to serve as docents at the newly restored Community House at
the Rim Village this Centennial Summer. Recognizing the historical
influence of artists in shaping public perceptions of nature, the
Friends, park staff, and staff of the Schneider Museum of Contemporary
Art in Ashland, Oregon collaborated to develop an artist in residence
program.
Forty-nine artists from across the United States participated in an
Artist in Residence program at Crater Lake National Park. An exhibit of
a selection of this art is on display at the Community House.
We are looking for volunteers to serve as this capacity or weekends
from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.. Contact Beverly Paulson to volunteer and
for more information.
