DOCENTS FOR THE ARTIST IN THE THE PARK EXHIBIT
Volunteers are needed to serve as docents for the Artist in the Park
Exhibit at the newly restored Community House at the Rim Village this
Centennial Summer. Recognizing the historical influence of artists in
shaping public perceptions of nature, the Friends, park staff, and staff
of the Schneider Museum of Contemporary Art in Ashland, Oregon
collaborated to develop an artist in residence program.
Forty-nine artists from across the United States participated in an
Artist in Residence program at Crater Lake National Park. During a
thirteen-month period the artists were each provided housing for two
week stays. An exhibit of a selection of this art will be displayed at
the Community House.
We are looking for volunteers to serve as this capacity on weekends
from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.. Contact Beverly Paulson to volunteer and
for more information

SUMMER FRIEND'S PROJECTS
There is a change in dates for the Friends early summer weekend to
initiate two Volunteer projects that will help Crater Lake National
Park. These projects are Adopt a Trail and Adopt a Boundary and will
be changed a week to the weekend of July 19, 20, 21 because of other
activities at Crater Lake.
Crater Lake is seeking Friends to Adopt a Trail or a Boundary to
help the back country rangers. Friends can partner with other Friends,
neighbors, and family. The adoption will include light trail maintenance
similar to the Friends Project Trail work, but we will notify the trail
crew of big troubles found. Folks who adopt a segment of boundary will
have tasks such as replacing missing signs, watch for trespass, and
report activities on the boundary.
Training and orientation will be July 20, and the Adoption work can
start July 21. The Friends who wish can join us camping July 19 and 20.
Watch for more information in the Summer Newsletter.
