Friends of Volume 5 No. 1 * Spring 2000 |

PRESIDENT'S REPORT by Greg Reddell
The year 2000 has been busy for the 2002 Committee. Read Glen Kaye's article about the Centennial Efforts first to get an idea of what tasks is ahead of the Friends and the park. The Friends Board has met in Roseburg and in Eugene this year. The board decided that the Friends needed a display board. We now have it and it is a real eye catcher. A copy of it is in the article about the events the Friends have participated in this year. The Friends are using Nonprofit Support Services in Eugene to make certain the Internal Revenue Service nonprofit status for 501 (3) C is properly done. The IRS has sent the final determination of our nonprofit status. We are hoping this will help with our Grant Applications to different Foundations. Nonprofit Support Services provides Seminars for Nonprofit organizations. Before the Eugene board meeting, the board had a 2-hour seminar that clarified, what 501 (3) C status means, what needs to be done for tax reporting, some tips on bylaws, liability, and Memorandums of Understanding. We have some cassettes for nonprofit groups that Friends are welcome to borrow to listen to. After the June 10, 2000 Adopt a Highway I drove up to Crater Lake and there is still a lot of snow around the park rim. I hope the Friends will have some exciting projects this summer. With good participation by the Friends, we will add to the projects we do. So watch the list of events and I will be hoping to see you this year. |
