Peter Jackson

Peter's another one of my favorite directors. Mainly because the movies he makes are so sick and wrong.

He's probably best known by the mainstream set for his movie Heavenly Creatures which stars Kate Winslet (of Titanic fame) as a homocidal lesbian teenager. Great movie with really really cool imagery.

However, among the not-quite-mainstream set, he's probably better known for such gems as Braindead (a.k.a., Dead Alive), which has to be the sickest, goriest movie I've ever seen. Kind of a pseudospoof of the horror genre, this movie goes way way way over the top and disposes of a bunch of New Zealanders in every manner imaginable (and some unimaginable ones, too).

But my all-time, absolute favorite movie by PJ has to be Meet the Feebles. Mix together the Muppets and Scarface, and you've got the Feebles. Definitely not suitable for family viewing. But beyond the wackiness of this movie, it is actually quite a cinematic feat with really good sets and muppetry. This is, perhaps, why I like Jackson's movies so much -- the timing, continuity, imagery and effects are usually pretty good, even if the rest of the movie isn't.

Other movies perpetrated by this guy include Bad Taste (in which PJ himself plays a small role), and The Frighteners -- Michael J. Fox's attempt to reassert himself.
