The Truth About Cats and Dogs is a variation on the Cyrano de Bergerac theme where a
brilliant but (presumably) less-than-beautiful radio talk show host (played by Janeane) tries to use
her gorgeous but dimwitted neighbor (played by Uma Thurman) to seduce the object of their affection
played by Ben Chaplin.
This is the typical romantic comedy about mistaken identity, but it still comes off pretty good. I particularly liked Janeane's performance, feeling as though she captured the part perfectly. Ironically, though, I think that Janeane is more attractive than Uma, so that put an odd spin on the movie for me. In any event, I liked this movie despite its formulaic story. It works about as well as Roxanne, another version of the same plot with Steve Martin and Darryl Hannah.
