Science is not an active force that creates the world around us. It is, instead, the attempts to explain that which we observe in our world. If the sky were red tomorrow and our theories of light, defraction, reflection and refraction (et al) couldn't explain it, then our theories would have to change to account for this new phenomenon. Similarly, our philosophies are like this in many ways. Theory is fine, but if a theory does not relate to the real world, what good is it? The Observatory, then, is a place where I describe some of the things I perceive going on in the world around me and what I think cause them or are affected by them. |
