The Graveyard

Death Demons & Devils Ghosts Vampires Zombies
This section of the Graveyard is dedicated to the Kindred -- the bloodsucking nobility of the undead world. Vampires have lurked in literature and celluloid for many years. Since the release of Nosferatu in 1922, vampires have appeared on the silver screen more frequently than any other monster, perhaps. The image of the thin, pale, raven-haired death-like beauty has become almost a universal icon thanks to Morticia, Vampira and Elvira.

Vampires, I think, have particular appeal because they are generally depicted as suave, sophisticated and gorgeous, male or female. Mummies, zombies, werewolves, Frankestein's monsters and so forth are usually depicted as slaves to their desires or mindless, altogether. Vampires, on the other hand, are in control. They are aloof and voyeuristic, making themselves known only when it suits them. And they have really cool powers, including being more-or-less immortal. There is something exotic and sensual even about the way vampires feed. It is often portrayed as being pseudo-sexual. What's a little love bite while in the throes of passion?

In any event, while I'm no expert on the subject, vampires are one of my favorite subjects, although I don't think I want to be one. There's something about the eternal damnation part of it that turns me off.
