Demons and devils represent a somewhat different kind of entity. As the counterpart to angels,
demons and devils are the incarnations of pure and deliberate evil. They exist primarily in the
afterlife, but sometimes transgress into the world of the living to tempt humans and to inflict pain
and suffering.
In this sense, they are, perhaps, more alien than the various undead because demons and devils are not human at all. But, as much as they are symbols of evil and inspirers of fear and loathing, they are also the instruments of ultimate justice. Christianity promises that the evil and the unjust will "get theirs" in the end. But it won't be God or the angels who will do the punishing, it will be the demons and devils who populate Hell. In a sense, this allows us the satisfaction of knowing that our enemies and transgressors will eventually pay for their sins in horrible, nasty ways. This section of the graveyard is dedicated to those deliverers of deviltry (though, as a demonologist, I am a total amateur). If, on the other hand, saints are your cup of tea, check out my friend's website: Lateral Line. |
