so funny ... there I was ranting and raving about the perfect mobile IM experience a couple weeks ago, all the while ignorant that someone was already building it (and without waiting for the mobile operators to get off their asses and do it in the network)

check out dodgeball.com - they get it

it still lacks the automatic part of detecting location that is so key to making IM work, but it's closer than anything I've seen yet
