I'm
transferring my website to Drizzle from another host. How
will this work?
Give
us a call, set up a Drizzle account, and we'll take care
of transferring your domain for you. You probably established
a login and password with the registrar when you registered
the domain name. We will need that information to access
your account and make the updates.
We
will submit new technical contact information and domain
name server information to the registrar. The registrar
will then send an e-mail to each contact on the record for
the domain to confirm the legitimacy of the change request.
When your administrative and/or technical contact replies
to the authorization, it will be processed. If after replying
to the authorization, you have not received confirmation
from Drizzle within 72 hours, please contact
us.
While
the domain transfer is in process, your site will continue
to be accessible from your old host's server. As soon as
the transfer is completed by the registrar, Drizzle will
get the information about that transfer being completed,
we'll configure your site on our servers so the domain name
points to us, and then the world will start to see your
site from our servers. The down time during this transfer
process is most often significantly less than a day. Most
transfers go very smoothly and quickly.
You
will need to set up your web site on the Drizzle server.
You don't have to wait for your domain to be configured
with us to put up the fies for your web site. You can post
them to the Drizzle server as soon as your account here
is created. Until the domain transfer is processed, you
can upload files to your public_html directory at:
http://www.drizzle.com/~userid
where
userid is the userid you chose when you signed up with Drizzle.
For more specifics on transferring files, check out our
FAQs on FTP
and setting
up a website.
If
you have your site installed on the Drizzle server BEFORE
the transfer is completed, there will be no "downtime"
for your site.
Once
the transfer is completed, it may take awhile for all Internet
service providers worldwide to update their DNS lookup cache.
We recommend that you not take your old site down for at
least 72 hours after the transfer.
Please
keep the information associated with your domain current
with your registrar. Changes in address, phone number,
contacts and personnel can create major headaches in the
future when domain modifications are required.
