I
want my own domain name. How do I get one?
Give
us a call, set up an account, and we'll register your domain
in your name. We'll work with whatever registrar you request
(or suggest one, if you wish), and call or e-mail you when
it's all set up. Please do not register your domain yourself.
Incorrect or incomplete registrations can cause lengthy
delays in activating your domain name on Drizzle or any
other server.
You
can post files as soon as your account is open. Until
the domain transfer is processed, you can upload files to
your public_html directory at:
http://www.drizzle.com/~userid
where
userid is the userid you chose when you signed up with Drizzle.
For more specifics on transferring files, check out our
FAQs on FTP
and setting
up a website.
E-mail
for your account will always be delivered to your main pop
e-mail box at
userid@drizzle.com
You
can use that as your e-mail address until your domain registration
is complete. Once the domain name goes through, you can
begin using
userid@yourdomain.com
as
your e-mail address. The domain e-mail address is an alias
for your userid@drizzle.com
mail box. ALL mail sent to
anythingyoudarnwellplease@yourdomain.com
will
be delivered to that mailbox. You may have as many aliases
as you want, for example: jimmy@yourdomain.com, potatochip@yourdomain.com,
yomamaswig@yourdomain.com: as long as it says your domain.com
at the end, it will get delivered to your mailbox.
If
you want e-mails to addresses @yourdomain.com to go to other
places, we can set that up. You can add another mailbox
to your Drizzle services, and we will configure the specific
address you wish (like yourassistant@yourdomain.com) to
go to that box, and/or we can deliver e-mails to mailboxes
that already exist either on Drizzle or not (squirrel@yourdomain.com
can be configured to go to squirrel@notmail.com). There
is a charge for extra e-mail boxes on Drizzle, but there
is no charge for setting up aliases that are going to accounts
that already exist.
To
filter your e-mail, check out our FAQs on Procmail
and Spam.
