Those that forget are doomed to repeat

#catchatters have been checking in since my email request in the evening of 09-11-2001. The email said: "In light of today's events in the U.S. Please check in w/ MamaMegaCat #catchatters so I know everyone is alive & well. If you need to vent, commiserate, etc I will be around @ 9pm EST Wednesday September 12th. Hope to see you there. Please email me at the least. God bless you all - Jan 'MegaCat' Buckner"

T-Jay wrote at Wed, 12 Sep 2001 01:38:59: Here and alive and well. Kind of concerned about my dad; he is outside DC on business, and starting Wed afternoon he and two other coworkers are planning to drive cross country nonstop to California. All of my other family is fine, as far as I know. [T-Jay's dad checked in Wednesday afternoon and is now safely home.]

TheaQ wrote at Wed, 12 Sep 2001 04:13:00: Hey Mega! I am alive. Still upset over the attack yesterday, but then who isn't? My mom is terrified. Between my sister and myself we have 4 sons who are draft age. We are all pretty scared! Glad you checked in. Let me know if someone doesn't! . . . and at 10:18:58: . . . we are furious over the celebrations in the palestinian community and bin laden's applause of the attacks!

Pat w/ 5 cats wrote at Wed, 12 Sep 2001 10:32:06: Nice to hear from you!
If you are familiar with terrorist attacks~ they are not a one time deal. I hope none of us believe we are safe. Maria
[Pat's daughter] left for LA~ and this is the first time in my life that I ever knew~ that I may not see her again.
She has friends missing in the Pentagon~ I have friends that worked in the WTC.
These people are beyond sanity and any concern for human life.

I know I speak for all the citizens of Canada when I say our deepest condolences go out to the victims in this horrific incident and their families. We are thinking of you up here, and praying for the people of the U.S. Take care and God Bless

Our office all but closed down yesterday, we had the option to leave and most people did, so it was a very somber mood for the rest of us who stayed. I ended up being able to leave at 3:15 when they figured out that 3 calls an hour wasn't worth me having to stick around. Hung out with some friends, danced and drank, enjoyed the evening as best we could to deal with it in our way. Some people say they felt guilt for doing the things
they do on a day to day basis when all of those people have died, but I think that those who were killed would want us to live the lives we've been blessed with, since we don't know when it might end.

Hawke wrote at Thu, 13 Sep 2001 20:13:30: My computer has been DRT (Dead Right There) for several months. Been trying to get down to my brother's place in NC so I can have him build me a new system.
I'm fine and have not been sent to NYC with ALSTAR EMS (where I work) or with my volunteer fire dept. Buffalo's rural/metro ems sent 90 emt's and paramedics with 23 ambulances. On a friends computer...keeping it short. thank you checking on me. Hawke then wrote at Fri, 14 Sep 2001 22:09:52: New update....ALSTAR EMS will be sending several EMTs and Paramedics to the
WTC site as of 9/14/01. Unfortunately I was not picked to go (I have to work on Sat. in town with the rest of my crew). One of my friends from the fire dept (Kiantone Ind. Fire Dept. - all volunteer) wanted to pack up my truck and head there for the weekend.

^jojo^ wrote at Thu, 13 Sep 2001 22:43:35: I'm still here. Been a tough week, not only dealing with the emotional toll of everything, but trying to look after and comfort my mom and my boss. To make it harder, Ruth [1 of ^jojo^'s 8 cats] had to be put to sleep yesterday because of a quickly spreading cancer. As you can imagine, I'm pretty drained right now, but working hard to keep strong.

Joffy wrote at Fri, 14 Sep 2001 11:15:59: Just to say hi and to let you know, my thoughts are with all yanks, and all people that lives have been effected by this. Its an unbelievable thing to happen and one the world should not have seen.
Hope your all ok and talk to you soon.

Pookajo wrote at Wed, 12 Sep 2001 11:01:06: Condolences to you and all the American catchatters. Pookajo then wrote at Fri, 14 Sep 2001 14:04:47: An addendum you might find interesting. Canadians observed 3 minutes' silence
today, and rang the bells of the Peace Tower at our Parliament buildings in
Ottawa. I tried to get a US flag yesterday to put in our store window
[Pook runs a comic book store in Canada], but the whole city was sold out! Apparently a Toronto newspaper had a paper fold-out flag that people could put up today.

LlamaChic wrote at Sat, 15 Sep 2001 01:10:23: I was in international waters near Mexico when it happened. My family in NYC is OK & I'm fine. Customs is insanely tight right now, stay in the US!
My heart & prayers go out to the victims of the terrorist attacks. I'm still in shock about this & can't imagine what it's like to have family taken by this tragedy. Strong heart, folks. You're in our hearts and minds every minute.
I know it's been said before, but I reiterate the request. Donate money or
blood to the Red Cross. Send clothing or cash to the Salvation Army. Sign up for the national guard if you're physically able. Or even volunteer in your own community. Everyone is feeling the shock of this. It's time to band together and strengthen each other.
