¡TchKunG!

¡TchKunG!. Ever hear of them? Pronounced CH-KUNG, they're a band that produces what, I guess, is called "industrial" or "tribal" or "shamanistic" music. Another band local to the Seattle area (and you thought we only had grunge), ¡TchKunG! has a really loud, percussive sound. I guess they're a little reminiscent of the performance art troupe Stomp. But ¡TchKunG! is much less stylized -- much more... primal. If you're ever in the mood to just bang on some pots, garbage cans, rocks, or what have you, they are the band to go with. They're another of my favorite bands that uses the didjeridu (aka didgeridoo).

It's also pretty clear that ¡TchKunG! are intensely political with their music. I like that. While I don't necessarily know or agree with everything they believe, I support their movement. All power to the people, ya know.

I saw them perform once at Bumbershoot (one of Seattle's music festival). They rocked! One of the few bands with firedancers. Very very cool!

¡TchKunG! is anchored by Wrick Tahoma, Grey Filistein, Lazlo Onatop, Devon, J.Sun, and Jason? I only have two of their CDs and am not sure if they've released any more. Check out their website for more info.
