Red Dwarf

Red Dwarf is a British comedy series about the zany adventures of the crew of the spaceship, Red Dwarf. Set in the way way way far future, the crew generally consists of Lister (the last human being and uncouth slob with a penchant for curry), Rimmer (a pompous hologram), Cat (an "evolved" cat), and Kryten (a neurotic android). Earlier episodes included Holly, the Red Dwarf computer. As I understand it, there have actually been two Krytens (played by different actors) and two Hollies. Additionally, the seventh series introduced the character of Kochanski, a parallel dimension version of Lister's ex-girlfriend, to the crew. Up until the seventh series, Kochanski (played by a different actress) had only made a few cameo appearances in a few episodes.

Red Dwarf is one of my favorite TV shows, although it airs very sporadically. Picked up by PBS, I have yet to figure out what the show's schedule is. Fortunately, PBS occasionally runs marathons at which point I can catch up on the series.

In fact, PBS in Seattle ran a marathon showing all of the new episodes when the seventh series finally came out. In addition, they had flown Craig Charles (Lister) and Robert Llewellyn (Kryten) in for interviews and a public forum. It was very cool.

Each series (of which there have been seven, so far) consists of only a handful of episodes. The most recent, seventh series had eight. I must admit that I got hooked on Red Dwarf around the end of the fifth series. Prior to that, I watched it only occasionally. Of course, now that I'm hooked, I would really like to watch the older episodes again!
